Welcome to our blog! We’ve both been teaching good academic practice for many, many years, but five years ago we came together to write a guide to referencing for the Faculty of Business and Law at De Montfort University. One guide became two (the Business school uses Harvard and the Law school uses footnotes based on Oscola). A few months ago we decided to publish our guides and quizzes on Issuu; only so it was easy to signpost our students and colleagues to the guides.
But as a result of putting together a poster for the ADL in HE conference next week, we thought it was about time we opened out our knowledge, skills and experience in this field…. So, here we are.
Annie Britton is the skills development co-ordinator for the Faculty and last year worked with over 500 students in one to one settings and delivered 30 lecture/workshop sessions.
Ros Lishman is a Senior Lecturer in Housing, but specialises in teaching academic and professional skills to her students. She is also a part-time online (very) intermittent student on the MSc in Digital Education at the University of Edinburgh. Whilst currently taking a module on Information Literacies it has led to the discovery of the SCONUL pillars and the work of ANCIL. These studies have been important in reinforcing the significance of the unique collaboration with Annie.
As University Teacher Fellows we work together on projects to develop pedagogy and this blog will be part of that experience sharing.
